Course Summary

The Cert III in Clothing and Textile Production course leads to careers to repair and maintenance within the clothing industry. This fashion course is designed for those who would like to learn the basic principles and methods involved with making repairs and alterations to clothing and in using the equipment needed to carry out these tasks. Training and assessment will be located in the fully equipped Sewing Studio ‘Second Stitch’. This space is suitable for the delivery and assessment of up to 10 students, therefore enrolment places are limited.

What Can I expect?

In your work you will be able to mark out, cut and sew fabric as well as operate specialised machinery. You will turn pattern designs into finished garments. Working in smaller companies you may be involved in all stages of production, from marking fabric with the design through to sewing the garment together. In larger operations you may undertake specialist tasks.

  • Replacing or setting zips and buttons or other fasteners
  • Using a range of different types of machines to perform the above operations

  • Basic pattern modifications
  • Measuring clients
  • Pinning fabric
  • Pressing and finishing garments


Working under pressure. Required to be physically fit as some lifting may be required. May be required working in noisy garment making facilities and wear ear protection (PPE).

Practical Placement

This course includes 80 hours of professional work placement.
