We are incredibly proud to celebrate our Playgroup Facilitator, Viela from Mabuhay Playgroup, who has received a 2026 Playgroup Champion Honourable Mention after being nominated by 10 different families from her community.

This recognition is a testament to Viela's unwavering dedication to creating a welcoming, supportive space where Filipino families can connect, celebrate their culture, and build lasting friendships.

The Mabuhay playgroup first began in Melbourne's CBD, where it quickly grew in popularity. As demand increased and waiting lists formed, Viela recognised the need for another group and took the initiative to establish Mabuhay playgroup southeast. She found a venue, brought families together, and created another thriving community where children and parents could learn, play, and belong.

"Mabuhay" translates to "Long live" in Tagalog—a fitting name for a playgroup dedicated to keeping Filipino language, culture, traditions, and family values alive for future generations. Through shared experiences and meaningful connections, children are encouraged to feel proud of their heritage while growing up in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Learning Through Play

Hosted by Viela in partnership with Playgroup Victoria, Mabuhay playgroup southeast offers engaging experiences that help children learn while having fun. 

One recent highlight saw families welcome members of Victoria Police, giving children the opportunity to try on police uniforms, meet local officers, and learn about the important role they play in keeping our communities safe.

Every session is filled with opportunities to explore, create, learn, and build friendships in a warm and inclusive environment.
