Building Inclusive Schools

The Victorian Minister for Youth, Gabrielle Williams recently launched the first-ever Multicultural Youth Census Report, which highlights concerns about the large numbers of young people from diverse backgrounds ( 25%) who have experienced racial discrimination and/or bullying.

Through Building Inclusive Schools, we are endeavouring to tackle the problem of individual and systemic racism with the ongoing support of our major funding partner Gandel Philanthropy.

The Building Inclusive Schools initiative is a collaboration between VICSEG New Futures and ten secondary colleges in the outer urban growth corridors of Wyndham and Melton, where one-third of the student population is from refugee or Pacifica background.

This project celebrates cultural diversity, promotes social inclusion within broader school communities, and supports individual young people and their families to deal with the damaging impact of exclusion.

We will keep you updated as this new phase of the original Refugee Student Engagement and Support Program develops.
