Provide First Aid

This course will give you the skills and knowledge to effectively provide first aid response - life support, management of casualty(s) and incident management until the arrival of medical or other assistance. (Includes CPR. Supersedes HLTAID003, previously known as Level 2 First Aid or Senior First Aid)


Who is this course for?

Any worker, volunteer, or member of the public who needs to be able to provide a first aid response in community, workplace, or other settings.

If you work in Child Care or Education you may need to complete the course, HLTAID012


What is covered in this course?

The course includes:

  • DRSABCD, CPR for adults and infants
  • Heart Attack, Angina, Stroke.
  • Anaphylaxis, Asthma and Choking
  • Fractures, Bandaging, Bleeding, Poisoning, Burns and more


Are there any preconditions for attending this course?

  • No prior knowledge is required but students need sufficient language and literacy skills; ACSF level 3 or above is recommended.
  • Minimum age 18.
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) number. If you don’t already have your USI, you can get it online here


How long is the course? Can I complete it online?

The course is offered in two ways, either fully Face-to-Face in class or through Blended Learning.

  • Face-to-Face delivery mode is 2 full days in a classroom with a trainer. Face-to-Face class days are always the same weekday, one week apart.
  • Blended Learning delivery mode includes self-paced online learning plus a practical session in a classroom with a trainer. Allow 5 –6 hours for the eLearning component, which must be completed before attending the 3-hour classroom session.

How will I be assessed?

Knowledge Assessment:

    • Students in 2-day Face-to-Face courses complete a written workbook with multiple choice or short answer questions.
    • Students in Blended Learning courses do not use the workbook; they will complete the knowledge assessment in the eLearning module.

    Practical Skills Assessment:
    All students will be assessed in–class on:

      • Performing CPR on the floor for 2 minutes
      • Bleeding and bandaging
      • Anaphylaxis, EpiPen, Asthma and breathing emergencies
      • Managing the Unconscious Casualty


      How long is my First Aid Certificate valid?

      Your HLTAID011 First Aid Statement of Attainment will be valid for 3 years. CPR is included and is valid for one year; CPR must be renewed annually.
